| summary | Can we successfully ignore information we deem irrelevant or unreliable? And can we become aware of how such information can bias our choices? The ability to introspect and evaluate the factors influencing our decisions constitutes a key metacognitive function but remains poorly understood. In this talk, I present studies measuring participants' capacity to disregard biasing information. We found that even when labelled as irrelevant or unreliable, such information still influenced choices. Although participants became aware of some biases, they couldn’t compensate for them, revealing a gap between metacognitive awareness and metacognitive control. |
