| summary | Excitation-inhibition (E-I) imbalance provides a valuable framework for understanding many brain disorders. However, a clear definition of E-I balance remains elusive, and it is currently unmeasurable in the living human brain (and challenging in animals). In this talk, I will discuss why the E-I ratio – defined at the population activity level – can be linked to the aperiodic (1/f) component of electrophysiological signals such as LFP, EEG, and MEG, along with recent findings on its alterations in Parkinson’s disease. |
