summaryToday’s societies consist of members with different ethnical backgrounds. Immigrants and ethnic minorities often face discrimination in the form of fewer opportunities for labor and housing, as well as limitations on interactions in other social domains. This talk reports the design and results of a series of field experiments on ethnic discrimination in amateur sports. Using mock email applications to attend training sessions, the experiments show that ethnic discrimination exists throughout Europe with major differences between countries. Additional experiments highlight that persistence pays off for members of ethnic minorities and that ethnic discrimination can be reduced through interventions.
