| summary | How is it possible that we, humans, as biological creatures, are capable of mathematical thought? In this talk, I will present research looking for abilities that can serve as “cognitive foundations” for mathematics: intuitions with mathematical content, which are present in humans (adults, children, or even infants) in the absence or prior to any education in mathematics. I will definitely talk about geometry (and about the geometric content of visual form perception), and, time permitting, perhaps also about the emergence of a number sense in babies. |
