summaryHow does our brain work? At a time when there’s so much talk of artificial intelligence, this question is all the more pressing! How do our habits develop? What drives human intelligence? Evolution has transformed our brains to give us extraordinary mental capacities. And yet, our actions and social interactions, which seem so elaborate, are often based on archaic behaviours. In this lecture, the author, a neurologist who cares for both adults suffering from neurodegenerative diseases and children with neurodevelopmental disorders, talks about illnesses in which disturbed habits are present. He looks in particular at the examples of Parkinson’s disease and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, two mirror-image pathologies.
