summaryThis talk analyzes the ‘Possessor-so/zot-Possessee construction’ in Mauritian Creole. It contains a lexical possessor and an agreement pronoun (either so or zot) which agrees in number with the lexical possessor and the possessee. In terms of structure, the lexical possessor and the agreeing pronoun respectively occupy the Specifier and the head of the functional projection FP. Evidence is presented against a dislocation or extraposition analysis of the lexical possessor. The status of so is also discussed: I agree with Corne (1986) in considering so as a pronoun. So is a personal pronoun marked for genitive case: it is the unstressed counterpart of the third person pronoun li which may be nominative or oblique. It is also compatible with bound pronoun readings. The Possessee phrase is analyzed as Number Phrase: the NP may be modified by an adjective or by a relative clause.
