summaryEpisodic memory, or memory for personally experienced events, is known to decline in the course of typical aging. Episodic memories, however, are complex and multifaceted representations, and recent research suggests that its different dimensions are unequally affected by aging. Across a series of behavioural and neuroimaging studies conducted in the Memory and Pathological Aging lab (GIGA-CRC, In Vivo Imaging), we explored the effect of aging on different dimensions of episodic memory. These dimensions include specificity (gist and details), content (perceptual, conceptual, narrative), and retrieval focus (item and context). Finally, I will present how current knowledge of healthy cognitive aging can improve the screening of pathological aging.
