summaryAlthough less studied than other senses, olfaction plays a central role for certain professions such as perfumers, flavorists or sommeliers. These experts demonstrate enhanced olfactory knowledge and performance, result of an enhanced perceptual learning and experience. Such training has been shown to induce both perceptual and neural changes, demonstrating the high plasticity of the olfactory system. However, the effects of such training on memory remain poorly understood, especially outside the olfactory domain. In the NeurONA project, we will compare odor and visual recognition performance of Isipca apprentice perfumers and untrained students before and after a year of olfactory training to determine how expertise can influence odor and visual recognition. I will present our main findings and the potential limitations of the study.
