| summary | One of the most curious artefacts to emerge from early European contact with Polynesian islanders is “Tupaia’s map”. Dubbed “the Rosetta Stone of Polynesian navigation”, it is a map produced by a Polynesian master navigator using a non-standard representational scheme. In this talk, I will describe ongoing work in which I am using computational methods to decipher the hidden logic of the map. |
