summaryImagining one’s personal future (i.e., future thinking) is a fast-growing area of interest in cognition and in mental health research. In this talk I will discuss some of the functions of future thinking in mental health, as well as impairments and biases that are observed in the context of psychological disorders. Recent interventions that focus on using and/or enhancing future thinking to improve mental health will be discussed, as well as the mechanisms through which they are thought to work.
