summaryIn the last few years, two major issues have moved to the center of our collective conversation. One is the climate change, and the other is well-being and mental resilience. It’s time we connect the dots and bring the two conversations together. They’re not just both existential threats, they’re also deeply connected, since the way we live, work (and teach, research and address policy makers about sustainability issues) is at the root of our health and ecosystem degradation and deepening socio-economic inequality. In this seminar, Dr Giulia Sonetti will tap into concepts of post modern science and transdisciplinarity considering how our pre-occupation with external phenomena and collective social structures has led to the neglect of people’s ‘inner worlds’—their emotions, thoughts, identities and beliefs. These lie at the heart of actions for sustainability, and have powerful transformative capacity for system change. The claim is that prioritising enquiry into how spirituality, contemplation and sustainability transformation relate is urgent and important in every field of academia, especially when neuroscience could legitimate and reinforce this claim with the quantitative parameters so dear to our EU ontology and policy makers.
