| summary | Most brain diseases remain incurable (tumors, neurodegenerative diseases, rare diseases,…). One of the main reason is the poor access of systemically administered drugs to their intracerebral targets through the blood-brain barrier. Transcranial focused ultrasound combined with circulating microbubbles is able to disrupt this barrier locally and transiently and consequently to increase significantly drug concentration in the area of interest. This talk will cover 13 years of research on this topic at NeuroSpin in collaboration with numerous external collaborators. In the framework of clinical translation we are now pushing the technology out of the lab via the start of a spin-off company. Beyond science and technology this is an exciting new challenge that I will be happy to chat about together. |
