summaryEmmanuel Chemla (LSCP) and Philippe Schlenker (IJN/NYU) will coordinate a research seminar on 'primate linguistics' in the Spring. The seminar's main proposition is that the vocalizations and gestures of non-human primates have now been described in such detail  that they are ripe for a formal approach using the tools of formal linguistics. The seminar will feature several guest lectures by leading researchers in experimental primatology (with an occasional foray into birdsongs in order to gain a non-human point of comparison...). Pre-requisites are flexible, but please contact the instructors if you wish to atten (we need to know in advance who will participate). Details are enclosed below.
